over the weekend mr. c had to travel up north for work. he returned home yesterday with this lovely companion for us. he had it in a small, tight, secure jar...i suggested we move him to the old fish tank (which has a lid). it would be a perfect home for him. so, we put a little sand and dirt in there for him and transferred Joe Dirt (mr. c and cade came up with the name) to his new home. randi was a little concerned because there was a small hole in the top of the lid. bob and i (the much wiser adults) assured her "there was no way he could fit through that hole".
well...
we were wrong! i came walking in the kitchen an hour or so later and that flippin' spider was missing!!! i gathered the troops and we began searching. mr. c continued to shift through the dirt of the container...hoping he was really there. and randi was singing a little "told you so" ditty. after several long minutes, we decided he must have gone behind the wall. but, everyone was to keep their eyes peeled at all times. as we started to go about our "pre-escapee" activities, mr. c turned and yelled, "there he is!" aagghhh!!!!! he was hanging from the blinds. he was...right above where i had been searching.
we sent him back to his container and taped up the hole. for the rest of the evening, he continued to go to the taped hole and search for another escape route. the whole thing was making me a little nervous. what if he ate through the tape?!
i couldn't stand it any longer. i suggested we let him go. no one fought me on the idea. so, after dinner we walked down by the canal and park and let him go.
hopefully, he can make a new life for himself here in the dessert!

Um. I am totally scared of that spider. It's furrry!
That is SOOOO gross!
Yikes! That's really creepy! At least he didn't make his escape while you were sleeping.....
Ok Mindy, that is seriously a freaky picture with the spider hanging from your blinds, I didn't even believe it was a real spider!
Don't you think he misses the cool weather in Greer though (maybe Mr. C could give him a ride back up to the cabin)?
