Mark Twain

mark twain {real name: samuel langhorne clemens} was born in 1835.
the year halley's comet blasted through the skies.
and he died on this day in 1910.
again, the year halley's comet returned to the skies. 100 years ago.
he knew he would go out with the comet...
just as he came in with the comet.
he was quoted saying,
"the almighty has said, no doubt, 'now here are these two accountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together.' "
i am very intrigued by this extraordinary man.
what started out as a simple blog post...searching for quotes...
my morning has been consumed with mr. clemens.
i would love to sit in his company. listen to him talk. and share a bottle of wine.
"never refuse to do a kindness unless the act would work great injury to yourself, and never refuse to take a drink - under any circumstance."
he was a man of many words...
"we may not doubt that society in heaven consists mainly of undesirable persons."
~~~
"good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life."
~~~
"there's a good spot tucked away somewhere in everybody. you'll be a long time finding it, sometimes."
~~~
"it's good to obey all the rules when you're young, so you'll have the strength to break them when you're old."
~~~
"now and then we had a hope that if we lived and were good, god would permit us to be pirates."
